Cork man (64) jailed for sexually abusing granddaughter

A 64-year-old Cork man was jailed for two years yesterday for sexually assaulting his own granddaughter four times as the child’s parents described their lives being turned into a nightmare.

“Our lives were turned into a nightmare when we discovered [victim’s) granddad had been abusing her,” the parents of the sexually assaulted girl said in a statement at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

“She had a good relationship with him and loved him. We had no reason not to trust him. He did not give us any reason. We have a life sentence of emotions and unanswered questions and don’t know the long-term effect it will have on our daughter.
