TOP STORY - 42 dead in french collision

At least 42 people are feared dead after a collision between a truck and bus near Bordeaux  in south-west France.

IRELAND

The tragedy at Carrickmines must become a watershed in relations between the Travelling and settled communities,  the priest officiating at the funeral of five of the victims said yesterday.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has been accused of making up a “self-aggrandising story”  to add to his ‘man with two pints’ tale, after saying the Central Bank told him on entering office to put soldiers on banks’ doors due to Ireland’s dire financial crisis.

A knife-wielding masked man stabbed four people at a school in southern Sweden,  killing a teacher and a student before being shot dead by police, authorities said.

South Sudan faces a serious risk of famine by  the end of this year  and 30,000 people are already classified as being in a food security catastrophe, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said.
