An award of €750,000 was made yesterday to a woman who suffered serious injuries when she tripped in what was described as a crater in a road in Skibbereen.

At the High Court sitting in Cork, Mr Justice Michael Hanna approved the settlement offer in the civil action taken against Cork County Council and Co-Action West Cork Ltd of Bantry, Co Cork.

Maeve Collins, aged 28, had brought the action through her father Tom Collins of Oak Lodge, Cashelmore, Enniskeane, Co Cork.
