Non-urgent patients are being asked to stay away from Kerry General Hospital in Tralee and to attend their GP instead due to long delays in its emergency department.

The 300-bed facility serves Kerry, parts of north and west Cork and west Limerick.

According to a statement from the hospital: “The factors that affect the emergency department at KGH are the number of presentations, the number of those who require admission, the acuity and complexity of patients and the age profile of the patients.”
