Ex-Fianna Fáil junior minister Conor Lenihan’s bid to return to the Dáil has come crashing down to earth after the TD failed to even be nominated for a key candidate short-list.

The former TD - who intended to run in the Roscommon-Galway constituency - failed to obtain enough grass-roots support to contest the area’s selection convention.

A Lenihan-O’Rourke political dynasty member, Mr Lenihan was a junior minister from 2004 to 2011. After losing his seat in 2011, he relocated to Moscow to join the Skolkovo Foundation.
