Gardaí await autopsy results on body of Brazilian man
The body of the Brazilian was discovered shortly after 3pm yesterday at Emmet St, Fermoy.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and the Office of the State Pathologist was notified. Gardaí sealed off the area for technical and forensic examination.
Councillor Noel McCarthy, who runs an off-licence a few doors away, said the man was well known to him and had formerly worked at the Kepak meat plant in Watergrasshill.
“He used to come into our shop very regularly. He was always friendly and very good humoured. I was very shocked when I heard the news,” Mr McCarthy said.
He said the man, who had a large circle of friends, had been out of work for a few months.
“We have about 100 Brazilians living in the town. They are a very close-knit community. I can tell you that man wouldn’t cause a bit of harm to anybody.”
