A huge jobs initiative “unveiled” by Limerick City and County Council has puzzled University of Limerick (UL) chiefs, who were said to be key partners in the project.

UL, along with the local authority and sporting interests in the city, had been involved in continuing talks about the setting up of a cluster of sports companies, with the potential to create hundreds of jobs.

However, UL was astonished after the council issued a press release on September 13 announcing 500 jobs, at a time when no decisions had been made.
