U2 announce Dublin and Belfast dates

It’s good news for U2’s legion of fans — the rock legends have announced six Irish dates to wrap up their Innocence + Experience world tour.

U2 announce Dublin and Belfast dates

The concerts will take place in Belfast’s SEE Arena on November 18 and 19, and in Dublin’s 3Arena on November 23, 24, 27, and 28.

It will be the first time U2 gets to perform songs from their most recent album, Songs of Innocence, to a home crowd.

“In the 18 years that I have worked with U2, the home shows are always very special, said Arthur Fogel, CEO of Global Touring Live Nation Entertainment.

“These shows promise to be brilliant.”

Lead guitarist David Howell Evans, better know by his stage name The Edge, agreed, but said that finding venues that could handle this particular live show proved “quite tricky”.

The Edge said: “We’re grateful to our overworked crew who finally cracked the reconfiguring to fit these venues.”

Innocence + Experience kicked off in Canada in May and moved throughout the US before hitting venues in Europe.

So far, the gigs have been met with rave reviews and have seen the band joined on stage by special celebrity guests such as American comedian and chat show host Jimmy Fallon, rock superstar Bruce Springsteen and pop icon Lady Gaga.

Tickets for all six Irish shows will go on sale at 9am on Monday, September 14, priced between £30 and £165, plus charges, for the Belfast dates, and between €30 and €185, plus charges, for the Dublin dates.

The band announced €2m from the concert proceeds will go to Music Generation, Ireland’s National Music Education Programme, which provides high-quality subsidised music tuition to 26,000 young people.

Music Generation was originally set up with €5m of funding from U2’s 2009 Croke Park shows along with a further €2m raised by The Ireland Funds.

Tickets for the shows are limited to two per purchaser and can be bought at the 3Arena and SSE Arena box offices and online.
