Romantic mystery of €20 ‘love note’ finally solved

The mystery of an Irish €20 ‘love note’ that went viral this week has been solved — and it’s even more romantic than first thought.

Romantic mystery of €20 ‘love note’ finally solved

Meath woman Denise O’Reilly found a €20 note in her purse last weekend with a message that read: “Christy, it’s always been you! Come and find me — Megan x”.

Denise felt she should try and reunite the seemingly thwarted lovers so she posted a photo of the money and its wishful message on her Facebook page.

The post was quickly shared almost 16,000 times as followers went into a frenzy of speculation as to the identity of the mystery protagonists Christy and Megan.

Now it’s been revealed that ‘Megan’ had not sent the €20 longingly into the universe.

Meath-born musician Christy told the Anton Savage Show on Today FM in an email: “Megan was the name I used to call my ex-girlfriend. We went out for a year and a half. The name arose from when I misheard her name and thought she was Megan for our first week of dating. Then it stuck.

“I’m a musician and while we were going out, I wrote her a song called ‘It’s always been you.’ We broke up, she met someone new. After I saw the €20 note on a Facebook post, I called her. She told me she had written it on a note she used to pay into one of my gigs about six months ago. I didn’t know she was there. She told me she thought I’d get the cash directly but I obviously didn’t. She took it that I didn’t want to talk. So, now we’re in touch again but the situation is quite different.”
