Sources close to Independent TDs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace have said they expect to be jailed next month over a security breach at Shannon Airport. Wallace, of Clontarf Road, Dublin, and Daly, of Elmwood Drive, Swords, north Dublin, were found guilty of entering a restricted zone in July last year in a failed attempt to inspect a US Hercules C-130 and another military plane.
The Army Bomb Disposal team has declared a suspect package sent to the office of Environment Minister Alan Kelly a hoax. The parcel arrived in the post at Minister Kelly’s office in Nenagh this morning, prompting an evacuation of the building.
The High Court will decide tomorrow whether Sean Fitzpatrick’s criminal trial, set for October, can go ahead. Lawyers for the former Anglo chairman are seeking to overturn a decision in the Circuit Court earlier this month not to postpone the trial.
Former workers of Clerys department store have staged a lunchtime protest outside the offices of the new owners Natrium, demanding a meeting. Former supervisor at Clerys Gerry Markey said the company was treating the workers with "total disrespect".
