Ireland’s largest craft trade union has joined the anti-water charges movement Right2Water. The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU), which represents 40,000 workers, is urging its members to join a national demonstration on Saturday.

Two prison officers have been injured following a brawl with up to 15 prisoners in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin, it has emerged. One officer has been treated for a broken nose and the other suffered a dislocated finger.

The Minister for Justice has ordered the Gardaí to undertake a fresh assessment of the IRA and its activities in light of recent developments in the North. In a statement Frances Fitzgerald said that she wants Gardaí to take into account information that the PSNI has uncovered as part of its investigation into the murder of Kevin McGuigan in Belfast.

Cheap drink could seriously damage the tourism trade, the CEO of Alcohol Action Ireland has claimed. Suzanne Costello was speaking ahead of a hospitality sector meeting today, where stakeholders will discuss the importance of the drinks trade to tourism and the rate of excise duty.
