Young disabled people in homes ‘failed by State’

Hundreds of younger disabled people left languishing in nursing homes and other inappropriate long-term care have been failed by the State, the Disability Federation of Ireland claims.

The HSE said it does not have the necessary funds to ensure that these people are moved into more appropriate accommodation.

Disability Federation of Ireland chief executive John Dolan said the money to move people to new, smaller-scale accommodation in the community must be made available.
