Focus Ireland said it dealt with a record number of homeless families in Dublin last month, most of which said they had never been homeless before. Figures released this morning show 466 families have become homeless so far this year.

A Garda investigation has been launched into how information about plans to charge over 20 water protesters was leaked to the media. Those involved in the case - which is in connection with the Jobstown water demonstration last year - said they learned of the potential charges from television news.

The student grants body is warning of an email scam. SUSI says it’s received reports of fraudulent emails being received by some people claiming that their applications have been suspended.

The Government has confirmed the remains exhumed at Cork Prison last June were those of Republican Thomas Kent, who was executed in the aftermath of the 1916 Rising, clearing the way for a State funeral. Mr Kent was due to take part in the Rising but received orders to stand down. Despite this, RIC officers raided Mr Kent’s home in Castlelyons, Co Cork, on May 2, 1916, with a view to arresting the Republican sympathiser.
