Students’ day of joy descended into chaos

It should have been a day of celebration to note the achievements of adult students as Tánaiste Joan Burton attended a higher education graduation ceremony in Dublin last November.

Instead water charge protests ensured that all those who attended the event in Jobstown, near Tallaght, would remember the day for a very different reason.

Ms Burton was initially met by a peaceful protest outside the college but it quickly escalated into ugly scenes.
