A €13m plan to tackle homelessness in Limerick was launched yesterday by the local authority.

Up to 68 units will be acquired or constructed at various locations throughout the city to cater for homeless people.

  • Peter McVerry Trust is to get funding for seven units.
  • Simon Community will develop four units at Speakers Corner as well as make six individual acquisitions.
  • Respond will construct 11 units at Shelbourne Square.
  • 40 units will be acquired by Focus Ireland Housing Association at various locations.
  • Cluid Housing Association will construct 21 units of accommodation for the elderly and persons with disabilities at Deauville, Dublin Road, Castletroy.
  • Nabco will construct 21 units at Drominbeg, Rhebogue, for general accommodation needs.
