Wanted: Cork Quasimodo for iconic Shandon bells
Cork’s four-faced liar is now calling out for a carer to work full-time on-site to ensure the “smooth running” of the attraction and to “expand tourist numbers” by boosting the profile of the historic site.
Undoubtedly the role will be music to the ears of jobseekers in the Cork area, especially when they hear not only is it a paid role, but accommodation is also included. Ear defenders are, presumably, also provided.
According to the advert, which was posted on Jobs.ie this week, the position comes with a “basic package and provision of comfortable three-bed accommodation in an attractive city centre location”.
Main duties and responsibilities include drawing up and implementing a marketing plan for the venue, ensuring the tower is open and closed on time, providing visitors with information about Shandon Bells and ensuring the health and safety policy is adhered to.
“Shandon Bells, St Anne’s Church, Shandon, Cork is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Tower Manager to manage and promote this iconic tourist attraction in the heart of Cork City,” the advert reads.
“A background in tourism marketing would be an advantage for this exciting opportunity to manage and develop one of Cork’s most popular landmark tourist destinations.”
The successful applicant will be reporting to the Tower Trust Committee and will be required to work Monday to Sunday throughout the year, with reduced hours in winter months.
As of yet, the operator of the site doesn’t know for whom this bell tolls, but it could be for thee. Anyone interested in applying can do so via www.jobs.ie before July 31.
