Man killed in industrial accident
The accident happened at the yard in Cahermorris, Corrandulla, Co Galway yesterday afternoon.
The alarm was raised when it was discovered the man had become trapped.
An ambulance was on the scene very soon after and paramedics treated the man on site.
Gardai also arrived at the yard, which is not far from Tuam, but the victim was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The man who died is understood to have been working at the yard and was well known in the largely rural area. He was in his 50s. His name has not been released until family are informed.
His remains were removed last evening to University College Hospital in Galway where a post mortem examination is expected to be carried out today.
Two investigations were last night under way into the circumstances of his death.
Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are preparing reports into the tragedy. The scene was preserved to allow forensic officers to carry out a detailed examination of the site.
Inspectors from the Health and Safety Authority were on their way to Corrandulla yesterday evening. A spokesperson said that a full investigation would be carried out into all of the circumstances of the fatality.
