Hospital charity set to host gala ball to raise vital funds

A hospital fundraising charity is, for the first time, to host a glitzy ball which it hopes will raise enough money to provide a sensory area for children with special needs and sleeping facilities for parents.

The inaugural Cork University Hospital charity ball will take place on October 9 at Maryborough Hotel and Spa in Douglas.

The gala ball will focus on raising money for equipment to help in the diagnosis of colon cancer and also aid neurosurgery.

CUH charity fundraising manager Miriam Forde, urged companies, large and small, to rally behind the event. “Any support will go a long way towards providing new much-needed facilities at CUH.

“We are looking forward to hosting a great night at the Maryborough, with fantastic raffle prizes to be won and live entertainment by the Pat Fitz Band,” she said.

Guests, she said, will also experience Maryborough’s unique new orangery for a champagne reception before enjoying a four-course meal in the ballroom. Raffle prizes will include a family holiday to France worth over €3,000 courtesy of Shandon Travel.

Those interested in sponsoring or donating a prize can contact Miriam on 087 2853907. Tickets, meanwhile, cost €150 or €1,500 per table of 10, and can be bought online at eventbrite.com, by emailing miriam@cuh charity.ie or by calling 021 423 4529.

The charity is vital to CUH — the largest university teaching hospital in Ireland and only level one trauma centre in the country, due to the vast range of medical and surgical specialities on campus including cancer services, cardiac services, and obstetrics.
