€4.5m funding for Cork and Offaly energy projects

Over €4.5m has been secured for energy projects in Cork and Offaly in a bid to link Ireland’s energy grid with those in the UK and France.

The two projects are among 20 European energy and infrastructure schemes to receive a total of €150m in funding from the EU.

The Celtic Interconnector Feasibility Study will look at building a 600km cable from Knockraha, Co Cork, to Brittany in France, with the capacity to power 650 homes.
