The family of Jack Halpin, one of the survivors of the Berkeley balcony collapse, has revealed the extent of the young man’s injuries and said his road to recovery will be “very long and complicated”.

Jack, a 21-year-old University College Dublin graduate, sustained severe spinal injuries, a broken hip, a broken leg, a shattered knee cap and various internal injuries.

The Dubliner had moved to California for the summer on a student visa and was attending a birthday party in Berkeley when the balcony at the apartment collapsed, killing six of Jack’s friends and injuring six others.
