Youth charity seeks funds for €16m tall ship

A youth development charity is hoping the State will contribute towards some of the €16m costs it has identified in building a tall ship for fostering relations between teenagers from both sides of the border.

The Atlantic Youth Trust is in Cork this weekend for the Sea Fest Harbour Festival and conferences, and Trust executive director Neil O’Hagan will use the opportunity to lobby politicians for investment in the new initiative.

“What we are aiming to do is to set up a cross-border youth development charity between Northern Ireland and the Republic that will use a tall ship to bring young kids together,” he said.
