Pop-up outdoor cinema at Fitzgerald Park postponed
Grease is the word as the city’s refurbished Fitzgerald Park will become a pop-up outdoor cinema, featuring live music and entertainment. The John Travolta and Olivia Newton John classic, featuring the romances and adventures of a group of high school kids in the 1950s, is the world’s most successful movie musical of all time.
Tonight’s event will be hosted by Happenings, a group which creates fun events in public spaces. After a successful launch in Dublin, the Happenings team has now partnered with Cork City Council to launch ‘Happenings Cork’.

The Happenings concept works by taking advantage of good weather and instant communication via social media to gather hundreds of people at short notice.
They said they have many more exciting events planned for Cork including outdoor yoga, music and more cinema screenings.

“At Happenings, we have some simple philosophies,” group founder, Peter O’Brien, said.
“We strive to give green public spaces beautiful open-air events allowing people to enjoy their city in a meaningful way. A personal responsibility action at our events is to ‘leave no trace’.
"Our audiences clean up the space by taking care of their own waste. And we have an unlocked policy which means we are unlocking the potential of public space and we do not have drunken madness at anytime. We aim to provide an alternative to pub-based entertainment.”
Tickets for tonight’s screening, priced at €5, will be sold at the gate, which opens at 7.30pm. The film will begin after 10pm, with earlier performances from the Rivets, DJ Gary Baus and Cork Swing Dancers.
