A pensioner who caught fire while smoking suffered full thickness burns to almost half his body, an inquest has heard.

Oliver Cronin, aged 69, from Virginia, Co Cavan, was found on fire on March 1, 2014, in the toilet of Shannagh Bay Nursing Home in Bray, Co Wicklow, where he was a long-term resident.

A father of one, he died at St James’s Hospital the following day having gone into multi-organ failure.
