Irish people have recycled more than 75m electrical waste items in the last decade — which works out at about 70 items per house.

According to the latest figures from the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) scheme, almost 250,000 tonnes tonnes of electrical equipment has been diverted from landfill since the scheme came into operation in 2005.

This comprised more than 75m TVs, dishwashers, kettles and toasters, DVD players, electrical toys, tools and more, including 3m monitors and screens.
