The Government is expected to widen the scope of the investigation into IBRC’s transactions amid mounting questions about the level of writedowns agreed.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan will meet Opposition TDs today to discuss demands to extend the probe, ahead of the terms being discussed by Cabinet tomorrow and an extensive Dáil debate. Senior sources last night said “reasonable” demands for the inquiry to be widened are likely to be accepted.

The commission of inquiry will examine transactions from when IBRC was set up in 2009 up to the appointment of the special liquidators in February 2013.
