Man seeks return of €86k seized by gardaí

Slaven Miskovic, who has not been charged with any crime, said through his solicitor, Diarmuid Kelleher, that the cash was from the sale of a property in the Czech Republic, the sale of company shares, and compensation for an industrial accident.

Detective Garda John Sheedy objected to the application brought before Cork District Court by Mr Miskovic to return the cash seized at his home at Tuckey St, Cork, during a search last January.

Det Garda Sheedy alleged that the cash was seized during the search of the home when other property seized included just over €1,000 worth of cannabis, a weighing scales, two mobile phones with certain messages, and tick lists.

Det Garda Sheedy said there had been no contact from Mr Miskovic about the seized cash and the detective was applying for it to be forfeited to the State.

Mr Kelleher said Mr Miskovic could account for all the money seized and had documentation.

“It is open to the court to strike out the application,” said Judge Olann Kelleher.

Det Garda Sheedy said it was the State’s view that some, if not all, of the money represented the proceeds of drug dealing.

The judge adjourned the application for the return of the case until September 4.
