It’s not policy, but Killarney hotels don’t accept debs

A spokesman for the hotel industry in Killarney has denied having a formal policy of turning away debs parties. However, no hotel in Killarney accepts the end-of-school dances, the spokesman for hotels in the town has said.

Each year Killarney’s young men and women have to look to Tralee to host their debs — despite the fact their home town has one of the biggest concentrations of hotels on the island of Ireland.

For well over a decade, Killarney students have not only had to buy the dress and the dinner but also pay for the hire of coaches to bring them on the 60km round trip to Tralee for their graduation balls.
