STATE EXAMS 2015: Timetable trouble solved with Garda escort to exams

Realising the bus had gone, Ian Fitzhenry, 17, a CBS Sexton Street student, rang a taxi. However, as the minutes ticked away he realised he was in danger of not getting to the exam hall in time.

A taxi eventually arrived, but in the morning traffic, he was getting increasingly concerned at their progress.

The quick-thinking taximan then saw a Garda car in his rear-view mirror and flagged it down. On telling the patrol car crew of the student’s plight, the gardaí drove in front of the taxi with blue lights flashing. They managed to get him to CBS with just three minutes to spare.

CBS principal Tom Prendergast said: “It just highlights how important these exams are. The taxi driver was very quick to realise the terrible situation the student was in and with the help of the gardaí, got him to the exam just on time and it all ended well.”
