Ibec: ‘Unrealistic’ expectations after pay deal

Ibec has claimed the pay rises announced for public servants last week could create “unrealistic” wage expectations in parts of the private sector.

The employers’ body said its latest private sector pay survey of 400 companies had found four out of 10 were not in a position to award rises — a similar percentage to when the survey was carried out last November.

“Of the 61% of companies awarding a rise, the median pay increase is 2%,” it said.
