8 Garda cars, chopper chase stolen vehicle
The Hyundai Santa-Fe was taken from a house in the Tallaght area between 5.30am and 6am. The owners raised the alarm and gardaí from the local station were dispatched.
They spotted a vehicle fitting the description being driven away from the area and followed it.
The driver of the stolen four-wheel-drive vehicle sped towards the Tallaght by-pass in the direction of Templeogue. Units descended from other local stations and the Garda helicopter was scrambled.
By the time the stolen car reached the Spawell roundabout, there were eight Garda vehicles chasing it. Meanwhile, the Garda helicopter was tracking its movements.
The stolen vehicle drove right around the round-about and headed back towards the Tallaght direction.
The driver was forced to abandon the car in Jobstown, west Tallaght, where he was arrested.
He was taken to Tallaght Garda Station, where he was questioned.
The chase comes just two days after a bizarre joyriding spree by three teenagers along the coast of Dublin involving a stolen luxury 40ft yacht.
