RTÉ has been criticised for its decision not to provide a sign language option for tonight’s Eurovision Song Contest final.

While much of the nation is expected to settle in tonight to view the event which is taking place in Vienna, representatives of the deaf community have hit out at the national broadcaster for not accommodating a sign language feed.

According to spokespeople for DeafHear and the Irish Deaf Society, host broadcaster ORF is transmitting the contest with an international sign language feed, but while nine European broadcasters have agreed to use it, RTÉ did not take up the option.
