Verbal abuse of care home residents

Inspections conducted at a care home for people with intellectual disabilities in Co Tipperary found a string of problems after health watchdog Hiqa received a tip-off about issues there — including that people were shouted at and called names.

The reports, published yesterday by Hiqa (Health Information and Quality Authority) outlined serious concerns about how residents at St Anne’s in Roscrea were cared for, with a total of five inspections carried out in response to unsolicited information being received by HIQA on December 16 last.

According to Hiqa: “The unsolicited information related to allegations of poor practice and practices that could constitute the abuse of residents in specific units.”
