Kevin Bulman, 26, from Youghal, and with a recent address of Penrose Course, Waterford, was sentenced on a number of charges at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge David Riordan said it was a matter of great concern that a man under the influence of heroin could make such a horrible threat to his father and he said the offence and another committed by the accused were at the mid to higher end of the scale for such offences.

Sergeant John Sharkey said the defendant was back living in his father’s house at Blackwater Heights, Youghal, Co Cork, on December 22 2014, when the incident occurred. His father became concerned he was back on drugs and a dispute arose. The accused caused damage to the house.

“The accused went back in and re-emerged with a syringe. He caught his father in a head-lock, held the syringe close to his neck and said, ‘Do you want Hep C you f***ing c***, I am going to kill you’,” Sgt. Sharkey said.

He pleaded guilty to threatening to injure Tommy Bulman with a syringe and two counts of causing criminal damage.

Tommy Bulman wrote a letter to Judge Riordan pleading for help for his son.
