Cut-price drink and whispers of political intrigue proved a heady cocktail for the Dáil bars last year as profits jumped by over 10% from €104,129 to €115,466.

Figures released in response to a Freedom of Information request show profits are not a result of TDs and senators drinking more beer and spirits.

The figures show revenues at the Leinster House bars last year fell from €285,564 to €275,521 — an average weekly spend of €5,298.
