Boy, 15, broke man’s jaw and nose

A 15-year-old boy repeatedly punched a man twice his age at the entrance to a city- centre newsagents at three o’clock on a sunny afternoon — breaking the victim’s nose and jaw and putting him out of work for eight weeks.

The teenager was convicted at a juvenile hearing of Cork District Court yesterday and sentencing was adjourned for a month for a probation report.

“I wasn’t expecting to end up in hospital on a beautiful afternoon with a broken nose and a broken jaw,” the injured party told Judge Con O’Leary.
