Knocked-down toddler battles critical injuries
Annalise McDonagh was knocked down in the driveway of her grandparents’ home near Tuam, Co Galway, on Monday and was airlifted to Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin for specialist, life-saving treatment.
Annalise, aged 16 months, remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit with her parents, Edward and Bernadette, by her side.
The incident occurred at about 6pm on Monday as Annalise and her parents were visiting Edward’s parents at Weir’s Village, just outside the north Galway town.
Annalise and her family live at Rivercrest in Tuam.

The family were enjoying the Easter break and little Annalise was the centre of attention at her grandparents’ home before she wandered outside the front door.
A family member had checked that it was safe to reverse his vehicle as he prepared to leave the driveway, but did not notice that Annalise was coming from around a corner and was directly behind him.
He only discovered too late that he had struck her and was distraught over the incident.
Annalise was seriously injured and was airlifted to University College Hospital in Galway.
Once the extent of her injuries was assessed at the hospital, she was immediately flown to Temple Street Children’s Hospital for life-saving medical treatment.
Her parents never left her side during their nightmare ordeal and have continued to remain by her bedside ever since.
Both sets of grandparents and numerous members of the extended McDonagh family have been calling to the hospital to offer their support to Edward and Bernadette.
Her grandfather, Michael McDonagh, said Annalise was holding her own, but that her condition is unchanged since Monday.
“She is stable, thank God, but her situation is critical. Only Edward and Bernadette are allowed in to see her in intensive care, but we are all here to support them in whatever way we can,” Michael said.
