New sanctions are unlikely to be introduced for unruly TDs after an Oireachtas committee criticised Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald for abusing Dáil privilege.

The deputy leader of Sinn Féin yesterday refused to retract comments she made when she used the protection of the Dáil to suggest that several former senior politicians had evaded tax by using offshore accounts.

While the Dublin TD faces demands to retract the claims, it is likely she will only be verbally reprimanded for abusing Dáil privilege.
