Detection dog Ollie foiled an organised crime gang after he sniffed out a large haul of drugs hidden behind a panel of an airplane arriving at Shannon Airport from the United States.

An international investigation is under way and authorities in the US are assisting law enforcement agencies here.

The customs dog gave an indication in the cabin, resulting in the discovery of 3.4kg of cocaine, with an estimated street value of €240,000. However, depending on the purity, it could be worth a multiple of that figure.
