A €240m unique waste disposal project in this country will see household waste turned into electricity at a new facility in Co Limerick.

Limerick facility plans to convert waste into electricity

Limerick City and County council members yesterday approved a €130m 30-year lease of a 14 hectare site by the Shannon Estuary, near Foynes.

Cadence EnviroPower, a joint-venture Irish registered company set up by two US corporations, will build a gasification facility on the site, adjacent to the Gortadroma landfill which opened in 1999 and closed in 2014.
