Game over for Tiger as Rory swings it

The changing of the guard at golf’s top table is now complete — Rory McIlroy is to replace Tiger Woods as the face of EA Sports’ lucrative gaming franchise.

McIlroy was just nine years old when EA Sports released Tiger Woods PGA Tour 99 on PC and the original PlayStation.

Fifteen games and three new PlayStation consoles later, the Northern Irish golfer was yesterday unveiled as the new face of the franchise.

“I’m very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA Sports’ Rory McIlroy PGA Tour,” he said. “This is a great honour, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up, playing the sport. I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.”

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will be released in June on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
