Man hit woman with pint glass at child’s christening
Thomas Callery hit Danielle Byrne in the face with the glass after he lost his temper following a melee which broke out between Ms Byrne and other guests.
Callery, aged 42, of Coultry Drive, Ballymun, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to Danielle Byrne, aged 22, on March 10, 2013, at the Swiss Cottage in Santry.
Judge Mary Ellen Ring imposed a three-year sentence with half of it suspended and ordered Callery to undergo 12 months of probation supervision on his release.
Garda Gareth Moran told Fiona Murphy, prosecuting, that Ms Byrne was attending Callery’s child’s christening at the pub when a fight broke out between guests. She told gardaí she had drunk five cocktails and two pints and was “tipsy”.
During the scuffle,
Callery threw a pint glass which hit Ms Byrne in the face.
Garda Moran agreed with Lorcan Staines, defending, that alcohol does not suit Callery.
Judge Ring said she cannot ignore the damage done despite the inappropriate behavior of Ms Byrne and other guests.
“Everyone should have minded their own business,” said Judge Ring.
