Jury sees bumper from hit-and-run

A jury was yesterday shown how two sections of a vehicle bumper, found in separate locations near the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident, joined together.

Garda Inspector Feargal Foley, Anglesea St, Cork, also said he took the sections to the Toyota Ireland headquarters in Dublin, for comparison with bumpers and fenders of similar vehicles.

He was giving evidence at the trial of Shane Fitzgerald, aged 22, of Upper Knockeen, Knockduff, Meelin, Newmarket, Co Cork, who has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Paud O’Leary, at Scrahanfadda, Gneeveguilla, Co Kerry, on July 1, 2012.
