Irish woman to make a big splash on Oscars red carpet with her own water-inspired jewellery

Goldsmith Yvonne Ross, fiancée of producer Paul Young, will be walking the red carpet at the Oscars tomorrow wearing jewellery she designed for the event.

Ross met Young while on a jewellery course in Kilkenny and she plans to wear a full-length royal blue evening dress with her own jewellery that is “water-inspired with blue stones and pear-shaped diamonds”.

Within a month of learning of the nomination, she had created exquisite pieces both for herself and Liselott Olofsson, the wife of director, Tomm Moore.

Both women will walk down the red carpet wearing hand-crafted pieces, inspired by the film. “It has been a very tight schedule — to make five pieces in three weeks,” said Ross.

“The design process took some time and, obviously, there was a personal invested interest in it.”

Olofsson will wear tanzanite earrings and a large dress ring designed by Ross. “All the pieces were water-inspired and are very much linked to Song of the Sea,” said Ross. “I designed little water-drop earrings for myself to mimic the pear-shaped aqua marine necklace. I used a natural blue topaz and it has a lovely steel blue metallic colour.

“Song of the Sea is a really beautiful film and the art house animation that they do at Cartoon Saloon is really inspirational. I am really excited about Sunday.”
