A major manhunt is ongoing in Dublin, after an inmate at Portlaoise Prison made a violent escape, during which two prison officers were stabbed.

Derek Brockwell, 53, had been serving a seven-year sentence for a series of armed robberies carried out in the capital three years ago.

From Scotland, Brockwell has been described as one of Britain’s most wanted individuals. He escaped in 2012 from a prison in the UK where he was serving a life sentence for 22 armed robberies, absconding from Kirkham Prison in Lancashire while on day release.
