Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe has clashed with another Government TD after insisting the exact details of the IAG Aer Lingus takeover offer cannot be made public due to strict Irish laws.

The Fine Gael TD said legal advice given to him in recent days had made it clear the information cannot be given to the Dáil, despite Labour TD and former minister of state for trade Joe Costello saying existing legislation permitted it.

Mr Costello said his Government colleague was not prevented from releasing the information for public debate by Irish shareholder rules.
