The 25-year-old, who has been making waves in the US with musical group Celtic Woman, also said the leak of the now-notorious message left by Twink on ex-husband David Agnew’s phone in 2006 “an awful, awful thing to happen”.

“I mean what can you do? You have to just deal with it and get on with it, there’s no point moping around,” said Ms Agnew.

The singer also said “nobody can understand” what that time was like for her and younger sister Naomi.

“You’ve cameras outside your front gate and going to school was difficult because there were reporters showing up… that’s very overwhelming,” she said.

“Obviously myself and Naomi were very young and I think the toll it took on us, with trying to maintain a young, normal teenager’s lifestyle while having that splashed across all the papers in the media was very tough, it really was.”

She admitted her relationship with her father suffered as a result of the split.

“It didn’t help that I was just thrust straight into Celtic Woman at that time and I went straight out on the road so I didn’t really have a lot of time to deal with it here,” she said. “I was just in this whole other world and that took over the focus.”

However, having worked through their problems, Ms Agnew says her family is now on good terms.
