A middle-aged man feared for the safety of his family when a man banged at his door in the early hours of the morning and threatened to petrol-bomb his home .

Micheál O’Shaughnessy, aged 42, of 7 Farranferris Park, Farranree, Cork, was convicted in his absence yesterday of engaging in threatening behaviour. Judge Con O’Leary noted the defendant’s absence from Cork District Court. However, he remarked he had seen the accused in court earlier in the day. Sentencing was put back for a week.
