Cork’s flight-tracking app is declared a world-first

Cork Airport has claimed a world-first by launching a new flight tracking feature on its own app.

Cork’s flight-tracking app is declared a world-first

The feature, powered by Flightradar24, will allow passengers using its app to click on a flight number and track live updates of an aircraft’s location, its type, route, speed, altitude, distance travelled, and total distance to destination.

Additional features include a live real-time map of flights in and out of Cork Airport which can be filtered by arrivals and departures.

Cork Airport claimed last night it is the first airport in the world to offer this kind of flight tracking feature.

“This feature now makes it even easier for passengers to plan their journey to and from the airport,” said the airport’s head of communications, Kevin Cullinane.

“To be the first airport in the world to introduce this innovative feature is a fantastic achievement and is a further example of Cork Airport’s commitment to providing a world-class customer experience for every passenger using the airport.

“Earlier this year we became the first airport in Ireland to make Google indoor maps available for all public areas of Cork Airport and in 2015 we will continue to innovate and introduce new initiatives to maintain the world-class customer experience for which we are known.”

The airport’s new feature embeds the Flightradar24 service in to its own app.

Flightradar24 uses a global network of sensors to provide real-time flight tracking information through its webpage and apps.

It draws together data from several sources, aggregates it with schedule and flight status data from airlines and airports to create its unique global flight tracking experience.

The free Cork Airport app, launched last year, provides a guide to the services available at the airport, including live bus and coach departure times, live arrivals and departures information, carpark booking, integrated maps, and details of all of the retail and catering outlets within the terminal.

It includes links to airport shopping services with all the latest offers from The Loop, current weather information from the airport, as well as live weather reports for all destinations.

The Cork Airport App is available to download free in the iTunes and Google Play stores.

Cork Airport was voted best in the world for passenger satisfaction in the ACI Regional Airport survey in summer 2013 and won the inaugural Irish Aviation Award for Customer Service last year.
