John Brennan is no longer ‘At Your Service’

One of Irish TV’s most popular double acts is to split after hotelier John Brennan confirmed yesterday that the new series of RTÉ’s At Your Service will be his last.

John Brennan is no longer ‘At Your Service’

Over the past seven years the Brennan hotelier brothers, John and Francis, have been travelling across the country with a camera crew troubleshooting for distressed tourist business operators.

The show has been a ratings winner for RTÉ pulling in between 450,000 and 570,000 viewers every Sunday, making it, according to John Brennan, the station’s third most popular TV series behind Love/Hate and Fair City.

However, John Brennan said the next series — which is already shot and is to be broadcast from Sunday — would be his last.

“I have loved At Your Service, but I can’t continue with increased commitments. There is just too much happening. I just don’t have the time for it,” he said.

Mr Brennan said the increased commitments arose from the Brennans’ five-star Park Hotel in Kenmare opening six weeks earlier than usual this year and the success of his Drumquinna Manor venture.

He said his brother, Francis, “probably will” continue working in At Your Service.

“That all has to be decided and RTÉ only give the go-ahead for another series after seeing the viewing figures for the latest one.”

John said Francis “is more free” to stay with the TV show as the Park Hotel has recently employed a general manager.

John said filming the seven series “has been a fantastic experience, but the public profile is not something I looked for. The hotel here is our business and the TV was a side-show for me. I’m not going to lose sleep if I am not on TV anymore.”.

He said the show has boosted the Park Hotel’s profile and business.

“I have been more than happy to be involved, but will not be doing another series.”
