Irishman charged in France over €600k of cocaine

John Anthony O’Sullivan, 57, was arrested in Granville after 4kg of the drug were seized on the French coast last weekend.

It is believed that as the drugs were destined for the island of Jersey, a number of local searches were carried out there following the seizure.

The Jersey-based Bailiwick Express quoted Mark Cockerham, director of enforcement at Jersey Customs and Immigration, as saying: “The quantity of cocaine seized is significant and had it been imported and distributed in Jersey, this would have led to a large supply being available at user level.

“In reality this cocaine would most likely be cut down again several times. Whilst we have seen a marked increase in the seizures of new psychoactive substances this year, this demonstrates that there is still a demand for class A drugs in Jersey and we are pleased to have prevented this consignment from being imported into our island.”
